“New” Neutral Benjamin Moore Paint Colors Every Home Builder Should Know About

Every home builder knows that the paint colors they choose for their new construction should be neutral to please most potential home buyers. However, many home builders choose such neutral paint colors that the home ends up looking boring. Every home builder needs to step away from the can of paint labeled "Builder's White"!Neutral doesn't have to mean boring. Remember, one reason people will buy a new construction is because the home will be move-in ready. When a buyer feels they have to paint within 3-6 months of moving in because the house is bland, it could affect their buying decision.Benjamin Moore has come out with their new Color Trends for 2014, which they call the "new" neutrals:paint colors"We've detected a 'lighter touch', hints, whispers, tints of color. Shifts to pastels without looking too 'candy', too 'Easter egg' which is an exciting message for us, a color company. We've begun to see a shift away from gray to tints of blues, greens, lavenders and pinks. Pastels, softened and filtered, to lift the spirit but not shout too loud... colors that can make a room happy, flatter your possessions and your art. We call these the new neutrals."

What is so great about these colors is they were designed to all work well together, which takes the guess-work out for you. To keep the home feeling balanced and interesting, we recommend choosing three to four different wall colors, and a basic white trim/ceiling color. Below is an example of a color palette you could use in the home. While the paint colors are all still light and neutral, they step away from the basic cream or beige wall color that home builders are so used to using.Example color palette using Benjamin Moore Color Trends for 2014

Please note that I stayed away from any of the pink and purple hued colors shown in the Benjamin Moore Color Trends for 2014. While they are popular colors right now, they are still too taste specific to use when selling a home.Typical Home Builder Color Palette
